Cadillac Chronicle
June 2006 Hi Folks, June 3Rd. saw six fine Cadillacs being displayed at the Brentwood Bay Festival Classical display with eight members in attendance. We all enjoyed a relaxing no-stress day as the clouds went around us to the north. We had a mini-meeting to do some club housekeeping on items such as the club decals and future events. It was decided that decals would be provided with club membership and further decals would cost $2.00 each. Decals will be available at all future events. As for the events, many were mentioned but the ones agreed upon to attend as a club were the following: July 1St. - The Gorge Canada Day Celebration – Dick Patterson informed us that this is a community style event with a mini car display along the beautiful Gorge water-way. This will be held on Gorge Rd. between Tillicum and Admirals Rd. We will meet at Dick and Pauline’s home - #303 Davida Ave. (just off Tillicum) at 9:00 A.M., then around 9:15, Dick will lead us in convoy to the entrance of the area. This promises to be another great relaxing day so lets all get out and enjoy one of Canada’s Birthday parties. July 23Rd. – The Vintage Car Club and Newell Morrison have invited us to a BBQ that Sunday. It will start at the Forestry Center @1:P.M. on Burnside Road then tour to St Stevens Church on Mt. Newton X Road . Further times and information will be sent out in early July. August 13, 2006. –Vic Lane has asked if the club would be interested in helping him with the Blethering Place show in Oak Bay. This is a well-attended event and Vic needs all the help he can get. Let’s all make an effort to attend. August 5, 2006 – The Club has been invited to attend and tour the air museum at the airport at their open house. This will be a very educational tour and what a photo opportunity for that vintage picture of your vehicle. Don’t forget your camera! Sept 10Th- Vintage Car Club Corn Roast. Newell proposed that the club attend the Vintage Car Club Corn Roast at the Saanich Artifacts Society Museum. Again, Further information will be sent out in late August but it is time to mark these dates on your calendar now. Sept 24Th- The Mustang and Chevelle/Beaumont Clubs are having their annual Toy Run. This is always a great tour and a good run for your car before winter. Mark this one on your agenda for the summer and start shopping for a toy for some less fortunate child come Christmas. The above were the events most in favor and I will endeavor to have the club sign at most of them. Lets mark them all down and try to attend as many as possible. Grease From the Squeaky Wheel ! Well this time it is Water from the Squeaky Wheel’s nozzle! With a motion sensor, a solenoid from an old washing machine, your garden hose and a little design work, you can make the finest pest controller on the market. With this equipment, the addition of your favorite type of spray nozzle and a little design work to fit your property, your car can be protected from cat paw prints, vandals and other assorted nastiness in your neighborhood. Directions –
This system has been in operation in my carport for some time and my cat has learned that this is not the place to play and I still have the hood ornament on my ’72. Lorne has recently set up a similar system to alter the attitude of a Heron that has been harassing his Koi pond. He has so far dampened himself, Ruth, his dogs and a few neighbors. Have fun and before you start the whole thing, for your safety, make sure your motion sensor light and all electrical components are run through a GFCI Breaker plug in. Have a great day!!
Membership -Have you paid your membership dues yet? The Membership cards will be made out as soon as I get the list of paid up members from our Treasurer. Do you know of anyone else that would like to join us on our tours, needs Cadillac information or has parts, vehicles or other Cadillac paraphernalia for sale or wanted? Introduce them to the club and bring them along to the next function - July 1St would be good! Cadillac of the Month – 1951 Cadillac series 60 Coupe – Frank and Marjorie ViggarsThis Classic vehicle has been featured previously in the Chronicle while owned by John and Gay Benson. It had been in the Benson Family for many years and will now serve the Viggars Families for many years to come. Since becoming the new owner, Frank has done extensive work on some of the systems and it is now running in a very comfortable state. Well done John and Frank and thanks for keeping this gracious piece of Victoria history adorning the streets of our beautiful City.
Thanks again for your time and attention Lorne
