                    Cadillac Chronicle

                                 July 2006

As we mourn the passing of our member, Victor Lane, we remember the enjoyment he gave us and the times, although too few in number, that we were able to share our hobby and its benefits with him. Vic was a very active member of society with his many interests and we were very surprised to hear of his passing on June 22nd.

A Memorial Service for Vic was held on Thursday June 29Th2006 at McCall Bros. Floral Chapel. It was attended by a very large number of his Family and friends whose lives he enhanced just by knowing him.

Thanks for coming this way Vic and we know that if there is an afterlife, you will be issued a Cadillac to continue your good work!!

At our June 3Rd. Meeting, a list of proposed events were again discussed. I will include it again so everyone is kept up to date :

July 1St. - The Gorge Canada Day Celebration – Dick Patterson informed us that this is a community style event with a mini car display along the beautiful Gorge water-way. This will be held on Gorge Rd. between Tillicum and Admirals Rd. We will meet at Dick and Pauline’s home - #303 Davida Ave. (just off Tillicum) at 9:00 A.M., then around 9:15, Dick will lead us in convoy to the entrance of the area. This promises to be another great relaxing day so lets all get out and enjoy one of Canada’s Birthday parties.

This event was very well done and we thank Dick for suggesting it. It was a lovely day and we proceeded from Dick’s place as planned but with fewer Cadillacs than anticipated but with all the other events around Victoria on Canada’s Birthday, it is understandable. The entertainment in the area between Gorge Park and Craigflower Manor on Admirals and Craigflower Rds. was terrific. There were many vehicles on display along the Gorge Rd. water-way, many of which have not been seen at your usual show in this area.

It was a fine event, enjoyed by all. Thanks to the Gorge-Tillicum Association for organizing it and many thanks to Dick for his input.

July 23Rd.The Vintage Car Club and Newell Morrison have invited us to a BBQ that Sunday. It will start at the Forestry Center @1:P.M. on Burnside Road then tour to St Stevens Church on Mt. Newton X Road . Further times and information will be sent out in early July.

August 2006. –The Blethering Place show in Oak Bay. This is a well-attended event. In the past, it has been put together by Ken Agate at the Blethering Place with the help of Vic Lane but at this time I have not been able to contact Mr. Agate to get a status report but it will undoubtedly go ahead. I will try to find out more info but for now, let’s all make an effort to attend.

August 5 2006 – The Club has been invited to attend and tour the air museum at the airport at their open house. This will be a very educational tour and what a photo opportunity for that vintage picture of your vehicle. Don’t forget your camera!

Sept 10Th- Vintage Car Club Corn Roast. Newell proposed that the club attend the Vintage Car Club Corn Roast at the Saanich Artifacts Society Museum. Again, Further information will be sent out in late August but it is time to mark these dates on your calendar now.

Sept 24Th- The Mustang and Chevelle/Beaumont Clubs are having their annual Toy Run. This is always a great tour and a good run for your car before winter. Mark this one on your agenda for the summer and start shopping for a toy for some less fortunate child come Christmas.

The above were the events most in favor and I will endeavor to have the club sign at most of them. Lets mark them all down and try to attend as many as possible.

Just In !!!

Does anyone know of a Caddy that can make use of these parts??

Greetings, I have several parts available to fit a 47 Cadillac.
Originally from a series 62 but I believe they fit all Cadillacs of
42-47. I believe some parts are interchangeable with Buick, Olds and
full size Pontiac of that vintage. There is a complete front suspension
with lever shocks and brakes, rear differential with brakes, leaf
springs and motor core with manifolds (intake and exhaust), head,
pistons and crank as well as miscellaneous auto trans parts. These
parts are located in Saskatoon and are offered free to anyone
interested in using them. If you know of anyone I would very much
appreciate hearing from them. These parts are surplus to my needs. I am
presently paying storage and need to see them used asap. I cannot bear
to scrap them but I will not move them again.
All the best, I look forward to hearing from you.

Grease From the Squeaky Wheel

This month the grease extends out to a fun "non-show" at Francelli’s Coffee House in the Royal Oak Mall. This has become a weekly Friday evening event where there is no organization, no limits on the entries, no charge but lots of "eye candy" and bench racing. Everything from Hi-Tech Hot Rods to low-budget works in progress grace the parking lot on these summer evenings ending in a self guided tour and auto display at Ogden Point in front of the many Cruise ships and their passengers that arrive there.

I have been there quite a few times and really enjoyed it. If you wish to have a very relaxed time, enjoy something different that is the place to go! The food (burgers etc.) at Francelli’s is also available both inside and out.

Information on Automotive Literature

Frank Viggars has contacted "Classic Auto Literature" in Nanoose Bay and found a wealth of informative literature. Their phone # is 1-250-468-9522.

Cadillac of the Month: 1967 Sedan Deville Hard Top

This original ’67 was cared for and proudly driven by the late Victor Lane. The vehicle was kept in great condition and very much enjoyed by Victor. We know that where ever the car ends up, Vic’s sprit will remain with it.

Well folks, that is about all for today so keep those Cadillacs and LaSalles rolling and most of all have fun. Life is too short not to make every day a bonus day!!!
