  Cadillac LaSalle Club of Canada

 January 2006

Well fellow Cadillac/LaSalle enthusiasts, we are embarking on a New Year with a different Government, wet weather and a fresh outlook on life. We must take the positives from these and go forward.

NEXT CLCC MEETING

The CLCC has another Annual General Meeting coming up on February 12Th. where the offices of President, Secretary, Events Co-ordinator and Public relations are up for election. This meeting will be held at the home of Wayne & Sheila Christmas, 5087 Lochside Drive, Victoria. (Cordova Bay region) The meeting will begin at 1:00 P.M. so our out of town members will be able to get home in time for dinner. We hope to see all members out, as there is an agenda that will include:

Old business –

Passing of the financial audit for 2005

New business-

1. The election of officers

2 Discussions of Tours and shows for 2006

3 any adjustments needed in the Constitution and Bylaws

4. Discussion of club window decals for our cars

5 An open forum from the floor.

As you have seen, we are cutting back on formal meetings and trying to arrange more tours and like events. We have some in mind for the coming year but need to hear your wishes and preferences. Please come out and have a say in your club.

The CLCC WEB SITE

Our site will be up to date very soon and we apologize for not having it on line at the moment but there have been other priorities in the lives of those responsible that have had to be attended to.

GREASE FOR THE SQUEAKY WHEEL

This month the "Squeaky Wheel " tells me that during the winter months, if you have a/c in your car, it should be turned on monthly to circulate the refrigerant and keep the compressor oiled. If it is too cold for the a/c to work, put the car in a warm place until it will function. The same goes for cars that are stored for the winter. They should be exersized if possible and the battery either removed or kept charged.

Another bit of lubrication information!! When getting the squeak out of the door glides, oil the shaft that holds the wheel and not the outside of the wheel as the bearing requires lubricant but the outside will tend to slip on the plate if oiled and wear will occur. (White pointer pointing upward to wheel or bearing)

To Restore or Not To Restore - Part three:

The following is the third and final part of the article published in the Self-Starter – The magazine of the Cadillac LaSalle Club inc. The picture following is that of Jim Morley’s ’31 LaSalle prior to Jim’s tender care. It will also be considered the Cadillac/LaSalle of the Month.

Eventual Use of the Finished Product.

Whether restored or original, a driver or show car, the end result must be to your liking. If your vehicle is to be left in original condition and repaired as necessary, you will have the pleasure and feel of the machine as it was so many years ago. You will also have the difficulties and inadequacies of the past such as mechanical brakes, non syncro transmission, drafty interiors and being left on the side of the road when the un-restored mechanics fail.

If a restored beauty is what you wish, you may miss out on some of the previously outlined joys but safety, endurance and comfort have their attributes as well.

Are You Thinking With Your Mind Or Your Heart?

Nostalgia plays a large part in the question of restoration. Your mind reverts back to those teenage years when your first car was a dream, and then reality, then wasn’t it great? If only you could relive those days again.

There are times when this type of thinking gets you into trouble. That car from years ago is now a very expensive "classic " automobile, a rusted out pile of metal or something somewhere in between. At this point if your heart over-rules your head, you could be in for a very expensive and discouraging project. Again, it may be time for that second opinion and a reality check. It may be better to spend a little more and buy the pre restored one.

Your dreams may become a reality once again if all goes well. If your heart is disappointed due to your minds decision, it was likely for the best and another alternative is just down the road. If that dilapidated barn doesn’t contain it, maybe the next one does.

In summary, the decision whether to restore or not is one that only you can make because everyone’s circumstances are different. We have all drooled over a 100 point restored show car although there are those of us as well, that can imagine who rode in the back seat or how those marks got onto the upholstery and why did they change this or that on an original

What ever road you take, enjoy your project and remember:

"A vehicle can be restored many times but it is only original once".

LASALLE OF THE MONTH

This vehicle was left sitting in an open lot for many years then purchased and stored in a garage for a few more then through another outside period prior to being saved by Jim Morley. Having seen the work that Jim put into his 1914 – 7-Passenger Touring Caddy, we can see a great future for this ’31 LaSalle. Well-done Jim and we hope for the best for both you and the ’31.

Well Folks, have a great day and we will see you on the 12Th of February at Wayne & Sheila’s place.
