 FEBRUARY 2006

   February is Heart Month !!

Well fellow Cadillac enthusiasts, here it is again February and past Valentines Day so I would like to remind you that it is heart month. Keep your heart in as good a condition as possible. Remember that CPR course that you took years ago? Well, in my e-mail the other day, I received a most important instruction as to how to do emergency CPR on yourself. It reads as follows:

Let’s say it’s 6:15 P.M. and you’re driving home (alone of course) after an unusually hard day on the job. You are really tired and frustrated. You are really stressed and upset ---

Suddenly you start experiencing SEVERE PAIN in the chest that starts to radiate out into your arm and up into your jaw. You are five miles from the nearest hospital. Unfortunately, you don’t know if you can make it that far.

                                    WHAT TO DO??

You have been trained in CPR but the guy that conducted the course did not tell you how to perform it on yourself.

HOW TO SURVIVE A HEART ATTACK WHEN ALONE

Since many people are alone when they suffer a heart attack, without help, the person whose heart is beating improperly and who begins to feel faint, has only about ten seconds left before loosing consciousness.

WHAT TO DO??

ANSWER !!!!!

Do not panic, but start coughing repeatedly and very vigorously, a deep breath should be taken before each cough, the cough must be deep and prolonged, as when producing sputum from deep inside the chest. A breath and a cough must be repeated about every two seconds without let-up until help arrives or until the heart is felt to be beating normally again.

Deep breaths get oxygen into the lungs and coughing movements squeeze the heart and keep the blood circulating. The squeezing pressure on the heart also helps it regain normal rhythm. In this way, heart attack victims can get to a hospital.

This article was published on N.240 of the "Journal of General Hospital" – Rochester.

The information in the above article is likely well known by most but it never hurts to go over it again. Tell as many people as possible about this. It could save their lives!! Don’t ever think you are not prone to heart attacks as your age is less than twenty-five or thirty. Today due to changes in life style, heart problems are found among people of all ages!

I know the above doesn’t have much to do with Cadillacs but with your heart not working properly, even a Cadillac is hard to drive.

February AGM – 2006

Our CLCC AGM for 2006 was held on Feb 12Th with 17 members in attendance. The agenda included normal housekeeping measures on the Constitution and Bylaws and Elections of officers to the following positions:

        President – Lorne Scott

        Secretary – Ruth Scott

P.R. and Events Coordinator – Roger Barrie

        Webmaster – Wayne Christmas

Discussion regarding Club Decals, Crests and other ventures that are coming up. There was also discussion regarding up-coming tours and events for 2006. Note was made that the two Torquemasters shows and the Parksville show have been cancelled for this year. Apparently this is due to lack of workers to conduct them.  NOTE:  as of Feb 22/06 the Parksville show is back on (ed).

After a very successful meeting, refreshments were served and a viewing of last year’s photographs from the events and members cars was shown inside. A viewing of a new 2006 Cadillac and others, including the recently completed body work and paint on Wayne McCallum’s 72 convertible, in the driveway and up and down Lochside Drive. It was nice to see so many of the members out and giving input into the running of our club.

The Next Event

The next event will be held in Mid March and will likely consist of a tour and brunch somewhere. Stay tuned for a message from our Events Coordinator. The Barries are now on-line. Welcome to cyberspace Roger and Val!!

Grease From the Squeaky Wheel

...for what it's worth. scary how smart some of those thieves are..

Vin #'s and car thieves

Hmmm!! You would think the Dealerships would require verification first. (Naw -- They just want to "serve the customer" so they can make a buck.)

Seems that car thieves have found yet another way to steal your car or truck without any effort at all.

The car thieves peer through the windshield of your car or truck, write down the VIN # from the label on the dash, go to the local car dealership and request a duplicate key based on the VIN #.

I didn't believe this e-mail, so I called a friend at Chrysler Dodge and pretended I had lost my keys. They told me to just bring in the VIN #, and they would cut me one on the spot, and I could order the keyless device if I wanted.

The Car Dealer's Parts Department will make a duplicate key from the VIN #, and collect payment from the thief who will return to your car. He doesn't have to break in, do any damage to the vehicle, or draw attention to himself. All he has to do is walk up to your car, insert the key and off he goes to a local Chop Shop with your vehicle.

You don't believe it? It IS that easy.

To avoid this from happening to you, simply put some tape (electrical tape, duct tape or medical tape) across the VIN Metal Label located on the dashboard. By law, you cannot remove the VIN, but you can cover it so it can't be viewed through the windshield by a car thief.

I urge you to forward this to your friends before some other car thief steals another car or truck.

I slipped a 3 x 5 card over the VIN.

The above may apply to your car and may not on older models as the serial numbers have only been on the dash for the last few years. It may be a good use for the decals that should be coming in the near future if you put the decal on a small card. If the decal is made portable, it can be transferred from one car to another.

LaSalle Info Line

An e-mail information line has been started for the LaSalle owners of this world. If you own a LaSalle or know of someone who could benefit from LaSalle information from 1927 to 1940, please inform Lorne Scott at seabreze@telus.net .It works in bulletin board fashion with no commitment or charge.

Cadillac of the Month

1959 Coupe Deville Dick Patterson

Nineteen fifty-nine was Cadillac’s year of excess and this particular vehicle shows it at it’s best. This one is an original, purchased here in Victoria on special order. Being for a Victoria client where the weather is very temperate all year round, A/C was not requested. The headlight auto-dimmer was not requested either but other than that the list of options is complete. This Series 62 Coupe DeVille was one of the 21,947 built that came equipped with the 390 CU.IN. at 325 HP. It has had just two owners and is a regular at as many shows and special events as possible in the area. It was ordered from and delivered by one of our present CLC members-the owner of an original ’37 LaSalle and a few Cadillacs, Newell Morrison. You would not know by its condition that it has carried its owners some 62,000 miles.

Well, that is about it for now so standby for notices about the March Tour and lets have a great time. Keep those Cadillacs and LaSalles between the lines!!
