                         Happy Valentines Day !!

February 2005

Back to Vancouver Island weather with rain, Cloud and sun. If you don’t like the weather, be patient, it will likely change in about five minutes. The day of our Annual General Meeting was somewhat of an "inside day" so a lot was decided in a very short time. As you have seen by the minutes, the club is still on track to have limited meetings, many tours and a lot of fun. Our next tour will be next month to the "Dog House Restaurant" in Duncan via the Brentwood Bay Ferry. It will eleviate the trip over the Malahat and with the price of gas these days it won’t cost much more to take a sea cruise to Mill Bay. The prices and times of departure on the ferry are as follows:

Price – Car - $7.85, Adult passenger - $3.10 .

Departure for Sunday March 13Th /05 Brentwood Bay to Mill Bay, 08:40 A.M.

Brentwood Bay to Mill Bay, 09:50 A.M.

Departure from Mill Bay to Brentwood Bay – 3:00 P.M.

Mill Bay to Brentwood Bay - 4:10 P.M.

Mill Bay to Brentwood Bay - 5:20 P.M.

Final details will be announced around the first week in March or as soon as arrangements are complete. The main idea is to form a run starting at the ferry and drive to Duncan for lunch then Lloyd Smith has invited the members to his house for a short garage tour. His address is: 3224 Drinkwater Rd. , Duncan, B.C. This promises to be an entertaining day so lets all make the best of it.

The meeting also produced the sign up of 10 memberships with only twelve members present. We have two new members, thanks to Vic Lane and Newell Morrison. Welcome to the CLCC Rod West and Steve Butler. May you have many joyous outings with us. We look forward to meeting you in person on the March Tour.

Website

The website will be under-going change in the near future. The procedure of transferring it to a new server is almost complete. If all goes well, we will still be able to keep the same format that we have had for the last couple of years, thanks to Craig Reeder. It is possible to have the whole site transferred to the new server –Dot easy.com – and if we can manage to get it to function we will have it active again very soon. If the management of it is more than we can handle, we will have to revert to a much simpler site in the future. The reason for the change is cost, as the present server is about to change his system and our club would not find the cost justifiable for our purposes. Regardless of the outcome, club newsletters and other information will be delivered by e-mail and Canada Post, as usual.

It is sure worth a browse if you are interested in anything concerning automotive or motorcycle memorabilia. They have also been known to do favors for clubs, their members and activities.

Many thanks to the above sponsors of our club and their endeavors, without them the CLCC would still be an unorganized group looking for a place to enjoy their Cadillac habit.

Grease from the Squeaky Wheel!!

For the past few issues, our Vice President Elect has been providing us with tidbits of information and has now volunteered to make it a continuous part of our newsletter. Thanks Wayne and we look forward to your words of wisdom.

Battery Installation:

When installing a battery with side posts, do not over-tighten! Four to six INCH Lbs. of torque is recommended. Too much torque will break the bottom out of the hole causing an acid leak. Corrosion will ensue. Side posts don’t normally have corrosion and if it occurs, pre-mature battery failure will be the result. Keep battery posts clean and put Vaseline or "Super-Lube" on them. Super-Lube is available at any auto parts store and is very useful in many electrical applications.

Car of the Month:

The car of the month for Feb. is John and Gay Benson’s 1951 Coupe, Series 62 wedding car. It is around 79,000 miles young and still in its original state. It was on loan to them when they were married and after a short while, the owner decided to sell the vehicle. John couldn’t let his wedding car get away so he purchased it and it has been comfortably kept for the last 25 years. It still turns heads at events and will for many years to come. Well done, John & Gay.
