SUMMER 2006

This summer's "Auto Season" has provided some wonderful opportunities for viewing old iron.  The July 1St. display at the Gorge showed some rarely seen pieces and each Friday evening at Franchelli's has seen a very realistic view of the auto action so prevalent throughout the lower Island area.  This has been topped off (from my point of view anyway) by the recent touring of 42 registered classics in Victoria. Members of the Classic Car Club of America - Northwest Region- were here from July 20 to 23.  Among these exquisite vehicles were eight Cadillacs, the oldest being a 1931 V12, 7 passenger touring car and the youngest were four 1941 Sedans and Converts.  There were numerous Packards, Rolls Royces with a smattering of others making up the tour.  Wayne and I had the good fortune of being "guides for a day" to a few of our southern neighbors.  This entailed being co-pilot to Ted Raines in his '31 V12 Caddy 7 pass touring car- really hard to take.  A photo of this vehicle is shown as the Cadillac of the Month, in all its splendor.

The Classics left Victoria Sunday morning and then came the tour with the Vintage Car Club of Victoria to St. Stevens Church on Mt Newton X-Road where a BBQ was held, courtesy of Newell Morrison.  There were around 60 cars in attendance by the time all were parked and the feast began.  There were 6 club cars there enjoying the record high hot afternoon.

Our next CLCC event will be the touring of the Aviation Museum on Aug 5Th., again, courtesy of Newell Morrison.  This will be a very interesting and informative event as well as a great photo opportunity for our vehicles.  Come on out and see the aircraft of yesteryear.

I have been contacted by Bob Belcher regarding Vic Lane's '67 Sedan DeVille HT and he is willing to negotiate a very good price for the car as long as it will go to someone who will take care of it.  He would like to see a club member purchase it and use it the way Vic would have.  It would sure be nice to keep this car in our club.  Bob can be reached at 472-0910 or e-mail- bbelcher@sd62.bc.ca .  Lets see what we can do about this.  It is Bob's intention to have it out at the Air Museum with us on Aug 5Th.

I have left messages for Ken Agate at the Blethering Place to offer help for the up coming show but he has not as yet returned my calls.  If any of you know him or wish to help out, please feel free to contact him.  It may be that he has all the help he can use.

Up-Coming Events -

Other up-coming events  in the area that CLCC members expressed an interest in attending as a club were as follows:

Aug 5Th  - The club has been invited to attend and tour the Air Museum at the Airport at their open house.   A great opportunity to re-visit the planes so prevalent in our history.  Again, Don't forget your Camera.

Aug 19Th. - The Blethering Place Show in Oak Bay.  This well attended event should be a fun time on the streets of Oak Bay.  Be there early  and Contact Dick Patterson to make arrangements to meet to go in as a club.  His number is  381-7667.

Sept 10Th. - Vintage Car Club Corn Roast.  Newell suggested this event and more info  will be sent out in late August.  The TorqueMasters will not be holding  their Sidney show that day so this sounds like a great place to meet and greet.

Sept 24Th. - The Mustang and Chevelle/Beaumont Clubs Toy Run.  This is always a great tour and a good run for your car before winter.  Mark this one on your  Calendar and start shopping for a toy for some less fortunate chile come Christmas.

GREASE FORM THE SQUEAKY WHEEL
This months grease comes from "1A Autoparts".  I have dealt with these folks recently and with much success.  The article has been taken from their website.  Their number is at the bottom of the article.

Ever wonder what that odor is coming from your vehicle? Your car may be trying to tell you something. Most of the common vehicle problems give odorous hints about the cause. You don’t need to be an expert mechanic to find these common vehicle problems; just pay attention to the aromas to do some simple trouble-shooting with your vehicle.

Electrical
Burnt Toast - A burnt toast odor usually indicates an electrical short or burning of insulation. Check to ensure all your electrical components are working properly and examine the fuses.

catalytic converter
Rotten Eggs – A rancid egg smell can usually be traced to your catalytic converter. The cause of this smell may be due to a faulty catalytic converter or an unbalanced fuel mixture caused by the oxygen sensor.

oilpan
Sharp Odor - A pungent smell can indicate a potentially serious oil leak problem. Check your engine for signs of oil leaks from the valve cover to the oil pan. Also check for some light blue smoke caused by the burning of motor oil.

gastank
Gasoline Odor – A gasoline odor may indicate a potential problem with the fuel system. Be sure to check the condition of your gas tank, fuel pump, and intake manifold. If worn or damaged, these items can cause low fuel efficiency and potentially serious problems.

radiator
Sweet Odor – A sweet odor usually indicates the burning of your transmission or coolant fluids. Be sure to check your radiator and coolant bottle for cracks or leaks. If you notice smoke rising from the hood, immediately pull over to avoid driving an overheated vehicle and call a tow service.

Knowing the odors your vehicle(s) can produce is a great and simple way to diagnose the most common automotive problems. To avoid these problems, be proactive with car care maintenance. Preventative maintenance is the best form of action. Call toll free at (888) 821-3393 or visit 1A Auto on-line, and let us help you maintain your vehicle.

Cadillac of the Month
This month's special vehicle is one from California that toured Victoria this month.  It is a 1931-7 passenger, V12 Touring Sedan.  It has been well maintained and passed the 50,000 mile mark just as it hit the Canadian border.  It belongs to Mr. Ted Raines who was accompanied on the journey by Larry Drees and Matt Larson, the Cadillac LaSalle Club's (international) Historian.  It is a superb vehicle and with that V12, it climbed Mt Tolmie with great ease.  Thanks for bringing it up gentlemen.  There will be another group of these Classics coming up to Victoria in Sept. and we hope to have more club members out to welcome them.  Stay Tuned!!

Have a great day and keep those Cadillacs and LaSalles running.
