HAPPY NEW YEAR!! Hi Cadillac Enthusiasts, Many, many thanks to Roger and Valerie Barrie for hosting our January meeting at their "Barrie Patch". The goodies were great, the Di-Cast model display was excellent and the company was terrific. Thanks also to the 12 members that attended and enjoyed the very informative talk on "Mascots from Years Gone By" by our newest member, Jim Coville. For those of you who were unable to attend, we hope to have a meeting in the near future at his home where we will all be amazed at his fine collection. Well done and thanks for your time and attention Jim! Jim has authored two books on the subject of Mascots that are available at Bolen's Books or from Jim himself. The information, illustrations and photos contained are second to none and either or both of these make great coffee table books for auto enthusiasts. Again, well done Jim!! Annual General Meeting Our annual general meeting was pretty well organized at the above meeting thanks to Melanie and Jim Morley of Nanaimo. If all goes well, the AGM will be held at Morleys in Nanaimo at around 2P.M., on Mar. 11Th, with a gathering for lunch at Gerry's Diner just north of Duncan. Roger will be sending out further details prior to the end of Feb to keep everyone informed. The meeting shouldn’t take long as all the executive members to be elected this year have volunteered to go for one more term so acclamation will likely be the word of the day. There have been no other nominations as yet for VP, Treasurer, or Events Coordinator. Membership Upon completion of three and one-half years of organizing, we are now ready to go to "Phase Two" as suggested in our Mission Statement i.e.- A Canada wide internet organization for the disbursement of information on wanted and for sale items, general information and interest in our favorite marquee. Letters will be going out to several Cadillac and LaSalle enthusiasts across Canada in early March. Winter Vacation Ruth and I will be leaving for the southern U.S. on Jan. 13Th. and will return around the 5Th. of March. We will be checking e-mail whenever possible but if there are urgent items that must be dealt with, contact VP Wayne McCallum at 1-250-652-7895 or e-mail wmccallum@shaw.ca . Don’t hesitate to call!! Cadillac of the Month This month we are featuring a small part of Jim Cowill’s Cadillac/LaSalle Mascot collection. Shown below are a couple of his favorite Treasures. The top one is a Cadillac Moto-Meter of the 1910-1915 vintage.
The next one is an authentic 1927-1929 LaSalle mascot. It depicts LaSalle with his campfire, a broken paddle (Worked too hard getting to Detroit) and his hatchet. These are fine examples of the sculpture and detail that were done for the radiator caps of our vintage vehicles.
There are many more things to complete before we head south so have a great day, All the best in 2007 and beyond. Don’t forget, mark your calendars for the 11th of March for our AGM! See you there. Lorne
